FC Universitario has 24 hours to pay Leo Egüez or face sanctions

FC Universitario is under pressure to settle a Bs 48,802 debt to former coach Leonardo Egüez after Bolivia’s Sports Disciplinary Tribunal rejected the club’s appeals.

The Cochabamba club had challenged the payment order issued on July 24. It also questioned the tribunal’s jurisdiction and requested that the proceedings be suspended. The tribunal rejected all of those requests and kept the payment order in force.

FC Universitario now has 24 hours to provide documentary proof that it has paid the full amount. The deadline begins once the club receives formal legal notification of the new resolution. The tribunal described the period as exceptional, final and non-extendable, leaving the club no further opportunity to seek more time.

The consequences could extend beyond the debt itself. Under Article 43.II of the Bolivian Football Federation’s procedural code, the tribunal may initially ban the club from registering new players nationally for up to three consecutive transfer windows and deduct three points in the competition it is playing.

If the failure continues, the sanctions may become progressively harsher, including another points deduction and, ultimately, relegation. Egüez is now the coach of Guabirá.
