FCT CP orders trial of four officers caught extorting ICPC chairman

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Ahmed Sanusi, has ordered an orderly room trial for four police officers accused of abandoning their duty posts and extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu.

During the course of the illegal traffic duty, the officers stopped a motorist on the allegation of violating traffic regulations and extorted the sum of ₦52,000 from him. The victim was subsequently identified as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

The incident occurred on July 11, 2026, when the officers allegedly left their assigned posts to conduct an unauthorized traffic enforcement operation at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II. During this illegal operation, they stopped a motorist, identified as the ICPC chairman, and extorted the sum of ₦52,000 under the pretext of a traffic violation.

Following receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they be subjected to orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duty posts, embarking on unauthorised traffic enforcement, and engaging in the alleged extortion.

Upon receiving the complaint, Commissioner Sanusi ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers: ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja, and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel. They are to face disciplinary proceedings for abandoning their lawful duties, engaging in unauthorized operations, and alleged extortion.

The Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with established police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel.

Commissioner Sanusi had previously described the officers as "thieves" and vowed that any officer found culpable would face severe disciplinary action, potentially including dismissal.
