Police arrest two over cattle theft, foil suspected abduction in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported significant successes in combating crime, announcing the arrest of two individuals linked to a cattle theft syndicate and the recovery of six stolen cows. The operation in Sagamu followed a distress call on July 25, 2026, reporting the theft of seven cows from a local cattle yard.

Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately mobilised and commenced coordinated patrols around identified exit routes. Acting on credible information, the operatives intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

Operatives from the Sagamu Division responded swiftly, mobilizing and patrolling exit routes. Acting on credible information, they intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, thwarting the criminals' escape and leading to the apprehension of the suspects. The recovered cows and the suspects' operational vehicle were secured. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other syndicate members and recover the remaining stolen cow.

In a separate incident on July 26, the command's Safer Highway Patrol Team successfully foiled a suspected abduction attempt near Onigaari on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Responding to gunshots, police presence forced the assailants to flee into the bush, allowing for the victim's safe rescue. The victim was unharmed and escorted to the Ogunmakin Police Post.

The operatives, while on routine confidence-building patrol, responded immediately after hearing gunshots from the area. The swift response and tactical presence of the police forced the hoodlums to abandon their criminal mission and flee into the adjoining bush.

Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved in both operations. He highlighted these successes as a testament to the command's enhanced operational capacity and swift response to distress calls. Ojajuni reassured the public of the command's control over the state's security situation, emphasizing ongoing efforts in intelligence gathering, visible policing, and coordinated tactical operations.
