FCT Minister Assures Delivery of 10 Key Roads Before Year-End

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has assured residents that between eight and 10 significant road projects will be completed and delivered before the end of the year. Wike made this commitment during an extensive inspection tour of key ongoing road projects across the territory on Monday.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the long-delayed Apo-Karshi corridor and the Bwari-Kubwa road link. Responding to questions about the political calendar potentially impacting project schedules, Wike asserted that governance operates continuously under President Bola Tinubu’s mandate. He rejected the notion that the administration should reduce its work pace.

"Has the tenure of Mr President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will be ending precisely May 29, 2027. So, if that is the case, it means that the work has also not ended," Wike stated, underscoring his commitment to ongoing development.

Regarding the Apo-Karshi road, initially awarded in 2010 and plagued by over a decade of delays, Wike revealed that work is now progressing rapidly. This follows the termination of the previous contractor's engagement due to non-performance and the project's re-award to a new company. On the Bwari-Kubwa corridor, he acknowledged the challenging terrain but cautioned contractors against delaying delivery dates, promising prompt fund releases to facilitate completion before the rainy season.

Wike reiterated the target of delivering eight to ten strategic road networks by year-end and pledged timely disbursement of funds to enable contractors to maximize the current favorable weather conditions.
