Fed up with morning traffic, Zagreb resident considers commuter trains for work

Morning traffic has become enough of a burden for one Zagreb resident that he is considering replacing the car and tram with a commuter train.

The resident, who lives in Donja Dubrava, asked Reddit users whether passenger trains run between Sesvete and Zagreb Main Station between 7 and 9 a.m. He said constant congestion, especially as people return to the city, had made the thought of commuting by car or tram unpleasant.

It is not such a drama. Intercity trains generally run as stated on the website. Sometimes there is a delay and the train does not come, but that probably happens more often with trams because cars drive onto the tracks every day than with trains.

His main concern was not the availability of trains on paper, but whether the published timetable could be trusted. He said HŽ Passenger Transport lists numerous services between Čulinec and Zagreb Main Station, while warnings about possible changes caused by railway works made it difficult to determine which trains would actually arrive close to schedule.

The resident said he did not want to spend half an hour waiting at a station for the first train that appeared, so he turned to people who travel the route for first-hand information. One commenter said intercity trains generally follow the online timetable, although delays and cancellations can occur. Another said suburban trains during the morning rush were usually accurate to within about five minutes, while evening services were less reliable. Other users said the listed times were dependable and praised the trains as a good option.
