Svetice Pools to Remain Closed Indefinitely After Major Technical Failure

The Svetice pools will not reopen as planned after their annual maintenance because a major technical failure damaged the facility’s pool-control system.

The flooding occurred at the end of July and damaged the main control system for both the Olympic competition pool and the training pool, along with equipment needed to operate them. Without the system, the facility cannot properly prepare, treat and heat the pool water.

Most of the damage has been repaired, but the facility is still waiting for specialized replacement electronics from an overseas authorized supplier. The operator said it is working to complete the remaining repairs as quickly as possible.

The Wellness Centre will reopen to users on Sept. 7 and operate from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekends. The operator said it will announce the reopening date for the two pools through its official channels.
