Federico García Lorca honored in Caracas with poetic-musical show

Caracas hosted a tribute to the renowned Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca with a poetic-musical spectacle titled 'Lorca como tú quieras' (Lorca as you wish). The event, held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Venezuela, Álvaro Albacete.

Ambassador Albacete highlighted Lorca's diverse artistic contributions, stating, "'Lorca as you wish' means that there are many aspects from which Lorca's figure can be enjoyed. He was a poet, a playwright, he was a musician, and all those aspects are reflected in today's show." The diplomat further elaborated on Lorca's multifaceted nature, noting his skills in composing poems, playing guitar and piano, and harmonizing popular Spanish songs.

The performance serves as a prelude to the 90th anniversary of Lorca's death, which falls on August 18. It masterfully blended orchestral music with recitations of his iconic poems, including 'Verde que te quiero verde…' and 'La sangre derramada.' The musical arrangements incorporated flamenco, rumba, and sevillanas, featuring dancers.

Directed by Alfredo Rugeles and produced by Milvia Piazza, the show explored Lorca's literary legacy and his role as a composer for his theatrical works. The Orquesta de Cámara Simón Bolívar participated, with musical arrangements by Luis Freites and Pedro Chacón. The final performance is scheduled for Sunday, with tickets available online.

Federico García Lorca, born in Granada, Spain, was a writer whose work was characterized by social sensitivity and symbolism. He was tragically executed at the start of the Spanish Civil War, becoming a symbol of repression and the disappeared during that conflict.
