Fedorov Seeks Return to Ukraine Defense Minister Post Amid Political Fallout

Mychailo Fedorov, who was removed as Ukraine's Defense Minister after six months in the role, has expressed a strong desire to return exclusively to his former position. Fedorov reportedly turned down other offers from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, indicating his commitment to fighting corruption and advancing military reforms is tied to leading the Defense Ministry.

His statement suggests that he believes the Defense Minister post is the only platform from which he can effectively address systemic issues within the military and drive necessary changes. This stance highlights a potential power struggle or a strategic move to regain influence within the government.

The removal of Fedorov triggered significant public reaction, with protests erupting across the country demanding his reinstatement. The political fallout was immediate, leading President Zelenskyy to dismiss the army chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi. Syrskyi was succeeded by Mykhailo Drapata, who is described as an ally of Fedorov.
