Félix recovers in two straight “final exams,” while CTBC Brothers keep foreign pitchers

Félix rescued his place with the CTBC Brothers by delivering two strong starts just before Taiwan’s Aug. 31 registration deadline. The club decided to retain him alongside Laggero, Reginatto and De Paula.

The right-hander, who played for the Uni-President Lions last year and arrived in Taiwan after the start of this season, had struggled to find his first win. His late improvement changed the coaching staff’s view of him.

Félix allowed one run in six innings against his former team on Aug. 21. He followed that with eight innings against the Fubon Guardians on Aug. 28, giving up two runs, one earned. Across the two games, he worked 14 consecutive innings without issuing a walk.

Jack, an Australian left-hander, will not be registered and will miss the chance to make his CPBL first-team debut this season. Before coming to Taiwan, he pitched for Australia in the World Baseball Classic and worked three scoreless relief innings against Taiwan in the opening game of the preliminary round. He accidentally hit Taiwan captain Chen Chieh-hsien during the game, apologized afterward and stayed in contact with him after arriving in Taiwan.

Jack later made three appearances and pitched 11 innings in the second team as a foreign player on trial. He finished with a 4.09 earned-run average, 12 strikeouts, 10 hits allowed and four walks.
