Félix Sánchez Classic Returns to Olympic Stadium

The Félix Sánchez Classic is set to return to the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez on Saturday, August 22, bringing together prominent national and international track and field talents. The event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will host sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and other athletes from more than 20 countries.

Félix Sánchez, the two-time Olympic champion in the 400-meter hurdles and the event's organizer, expressed his excitement about the classic's return to the Olympic Stadium, its home for the first time since 2006. "I am happy to return home, 20 years later," Sánchez stated. He, along with the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, emphasized the current strength of Dominican athletics, noting the team's recent success in winning 23 medals, including 14 golds.

Several local athletes who excelled at the Santo Domingo 2026 games are expected to compete. Among them are Liranyi Alonso, a four-time gold medalist in the 100m, 200m, and both 4x100m relays; Yeral Núñez Mercedes, a Central American and Pan American champion in the 400m hurdles; Franquelo Pérez, Yohandris Andújar, and Yancarlos Martínez from the 4x100m relay team; and Olympic medalist Luguelin Santos. Additionally, relay champions Estrella de Aza, Bianka Acosta, and Milagros Durán, along with shot put regional champion Rosa Ramírez, will participate.
