Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş Derby Erupts in Tension as Players Trade Accusations

The Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş derby descended into a confrontation in the 52nd minute, when Milan Skriniar and Dusan Vlahovic became involved in a tense exchange away from the ball.

The rivalry between Fenerbahçe defender Skriniar and Beşiktaş striker Vlahovic had already surfaced during several first-half incidents. In the second half, Vlahovic expected a handball after an intervention by his opponent, while Skriniar reacted to the Beşiktaş player’s protest.

The dispute quickly drew in players from both teams. Beşiktaş players objected that Skriniar had grabbed Vlahovic by the throat during the incident. Fenerbahçe’s players, meanwhile, focused on a hand gesture made by Skriniar.

Referee Halil Umut Meler stopped play and reviewed the episode with VAR. He then issued three yellow cards: one to Fenerbahçe’s Skriniar, another to Ederson, and one to Beşiktaş’s Vlahovic.
