Fenerbahçe Transfer Claim Confirmed by Luis Suárez: “It Happened”

Luis Suárez has confirmed that an agreement with Hakan Safi, a former candidate for the Fenerbahçe presidency, did exist, while insisting that the proposed transfer is now behind him.

The claim had emerged before the Fenerbahçe congress that ended with Aziz Yıldırım being elected president. Safi had included Suárez among his transfer promises, prompting questions about whether a deal had actually been reached.

Asked directly whether an agreement with Safi was real, Suárez said he did not want to deny something that had happened. “If there is something that defines me, it is that I do not lie,” he said, adding that his president had spoken clearly about the matter a week earlier.

Suárez stressed that the agreement had not resulted in a move. “I am a man; I say this looking at the camera and all the fans: this happened, but it is now behind me, because I did not go anywhere,” he said. He added that his mind was entirely on Sporting and that he would continue proving his full commitment on the field.

Sporting coach Rui Borges was also asked about Suárez’s confirmation and his subsequent emphasis on remaining committed to the club.
