Fernando Tatis Jr. wins rare Player and Play of the Week double

San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. capped an unforgettable week by securing both the National League Player of the Week and Play of the Week awards. This dual honor is a rare achievement in Major League Baseball, with Tatis Jr. becoming only the second player to win both simultaneously.

His performance included a .480 batting average over six games, with two doubles, four home runs, and 11 RBIs. Tatis Jr. also made a spectacular leaping catch to rob Puerto Rico's Francisco Lindor of a grand slam, a moment that drew significant attention. This catch, combined with his offensive prowess, earned him the Play of the Week award.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto also received American League Player of the Week honors. Neto, of Cuban descent, had an exceptional week, hitting .500 with 14 hits, including four doubles, a triple, two home runs, and two stolen bases, driving in nine runs over six games. This marks his second Player of the Week award this season.

Neto is on pace for his third consecutive 20-20 season, with 22 home runs and 18 stolen bases already. He is the second Angels player to win the award this season, following Dominican pitcher José Soriano. Tatis Jr.'s achievement of winning both Player and Play of the Week is a distinction previously held by only two players, including his compatriot Juan Soto.
