FG mourns medical graduate killed in Ukraine attack

Nigeria's Federal Government has announced its profound sadness over the death of Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate from Kharkiv National Medical University. Marian reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigerian community affected by this tragic loss.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, issued a statement conveying the government's heartfelt condolences to Marian's bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the wider Nigerian community affected by the tragedy. The ministry confirmed it is actively engaging with relevant Ukrainian authorities and Nigeria's diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany.

These engagements aim to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide necessary consular assistance to the deceased's family. The Nigerian government also used the announcement to reiterate its deep concern regarding the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, particularly the loss of civilian lives.

The Ministry is in contact with the relevant authorities as well as Nigeria’s Missions in Ukraine and Germany to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to provide the necessary consular assistance to the family.

Nigeria renewed its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to the welfare and protection of its citizens abroad, assuring continuous monitoring and support through its diplomatic missions.
