FG orders upgrade of NSCDC training facility in Abuja

Nigeria's Federal Government has directed a significant upgrade of the NSCDC's Tactical Training Ground and Obstacle Course in Abuja. The move aims to bolster the corps' operational readiness and professional competence in tackling the nation's evolving security threats.

This occasion represents far more than the unveiling of a physical structure. This is a celebration of vision, commitment and strategic investment in the future of the Corps.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by NSCDC Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, described the facility's unveiling as a "celebration of vision, commitment and strategic investment in the future of the Corps." Audi announced the minister's directive to elevate the training center to a higher standard, noting that such facilities are rare, with only a few commands possessing a similar setup.

The minister has directed me to begin the process of upgrade of this training centre. This training ground will be upgraded to a standard level where, because as it is now, you can only find something like this in our training schools. I think it’s only one or two commands that have a semblance of this.

The NSCDC chief stressed that the upgrade reflects the corps' dedication to becoming "professionally competent, intelligence-driven, operationally effective and fully prepared" for challenges like terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and vandalism. He likened the current security landscape to an "asymmetric conflict" and advocated for a "three C's" framework, collaboration, cooperation, and coordination, among security agencies.

Commandant General Audi also commended the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, for the initiative. Audi urged officers to utilize the new facility diligently, emphasizing that training should be conducted with "discipline, professionalism, and integrity" to ultimately protect Nigerian citizens.
