FG targets 6 flashpoints in new push to end farmers-herders clashes

Nigeria's Federal Government is launching a renewed push to resolve the persistent clashes between farmers and herders, identifying six key areas as flashpoints for intervention. The government acknowledges that the traditional open movement of cattle is no longer a sustainable practice, signaling a significant policy shift.

As part of this intensified effort, plans are underway to rehabilitate existing grazing reserves and establish modern ranching settlements. A pilot ranching program is set to begin in Plateau state, with further rehabilitation planned for 417 grazing reserves across the country. This initiative aims to provide designated areas for livestock, thereby reducing conflict over land use.

The government's strategy focuses on creating a more structured approach to herding and farming, seeking to mitigate the violence that has plagued various regions. The success of these measures is anticipated to bring greater stability and security to the affected communities.
