FG Vows Stronger Health Reforms as NHEA Honours 31 Healthcare Champions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the nation's healthcare system through reforms, strategic investments, and robust partnerships. This commitment was emphasized during the 2026 Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA), which celebrated 31 distinguished healthcare institutions, professionals, and innovators.

Speaking at the event in Lagos, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, affirmed the government's focus on building a stronger, more resilient, and accessible healthcare system. He described the award recipients and nominees as "ambassadors of excellence" who inspire confidence in Nigeria's health sector. Salako highlighted that recognizing excellence is crucial for driving innovation, improving accountability, and strengthening resilience within the healthcare system. "Recognizing excellence remains an important catalyst for improving quality, innovation and accountability in healthcare delivery," he stated, urging the organizers to sustain the initiative.

The NHEA ceremony, considered a premier healthcare recognition platform in Nigeria, convened top healthcare leaders, regulators, policymakers, development partners, medical professionals, and industry stakeholders. This year's theme, 'Innovation, Local Manufacturing and Digital Transformation,' underscored the growing significance of technology, indigenous production, and strategic collaboration in reshaping healthcare services.

Dr. Anthony Omolola, Chairman of the NHEA Advisory Board, noted that the awards have become a symbol of resilience, innovation, and leadership in Nigeria's health sector. He pointed out that being shortlisted from over 120 nominations was a significant achievement in itself, demonstrating the remarkable efforts of individuals and organizations working to improve healthcare delivery in the country. Omolola assured that the awards process remains transparent and merit-driven, with winners selected through public nominations.
