FIFA Fan Festival in Nuevo León Draws 2.5 Million, Leaves Historic Legacy

The FIFA Fan Festival in Nuevo León has wrapped up after a successful 40-day run, drawing an impressive cumulative attendance of 2.5 million people. Organizers are hailing the event as the largest public gathering in the state's history, leaving a significant legacy that they believe extends beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup itself.

Held at Parque Fundidora, the festival served as a central hub for fans during the World Cup. It brought together families, young people, children, and both domestic and international visitors to experience the tournament atmosphere outside the stadiums. The scale of the event was substantial, with its cumulative attendance reportedly equivalent to about 10 editions of the Pa'l Norte festival, underscoring its unprecedented scope for the region.

Nuevo León demonstrated that it can think big, coordinate big, and execute big. Our challenge was to ensure that the World Cup did not remain solely within a stadium but reached all our people.

Financially, the festival operated on a model that generated its own income through ticket sales, sponsorships, food and beverage offerings, and other commercial ventures. While the final financial figures are still being compiled, preliminary results suggest a strong recovery of the investment made in the project. Crucially, the festival did not incur any direct costs for the Nuevo León state government.

Throughout its six-week duration, Parque Fundidora hosted live match broadcasts, fan experiences, diverse culinary options, and a high-caliber artistic lineup. Performers included Chayanne, Imagine Dragons, Grupo Firme, and Enrique Iglesias, among others. The festival concluded with a performance by Carín León. Organizers praised Nuevo León's capacity to host large-scale events, emphasizing that the World Cup's impact was extended to the entire population, not just confined to stadiums.
