Fifa president slams critics, accusing them of spreading hate

Infantino's remarks come a week after the conclusion of the Men's World Cup in North America, an event that saw criticism directed at FIFA and its president from various quarters. While he had previously offered only superficial responses to the criticism, Infantino has now addressed several key points. He highlighted FIFA's efforts to unite two countries during the tournament, referencing the Iranian team's ability to participate in the U.S. without incident, despite geopolitical tensions.

He also addressed the case of Somali referee Omar Artan, who was denied entry to the U.S. due to alleged ties to terrorist organizations. Infantino suggested that critics focused too much on the "few who were denied visas" rather than the "millions who were approved." Another point of contention was FIFA's suspension of a ban for American striker Folarin Balogun after receiving a red card, a decision that drew sharp criticism from UEFA, which called it "incomprehensible and irresponsible."

Infantino appears to have the backing of a majority of FIFA's 211 member states and is expected to be re-elected for another term in 2027.
