FIFA reverses course, cancels Forward Enterprise project after confederation rejection

FIFA confirmed on Friday that the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project will not proceed, ending a controversial proposal after days of institutional tension with major world football confederations. The FFE project was intended to strengthen member associations and global football, particularly in countries needing support. FIFA emphasized that it planned to proceed only with majority backing from member associations and after consultations. However, after hearing various positions, FIFA acknowledged the initiative "created divisions" that no longer served the project's original objective. "Our purpose has always been, and will always be, to unite and improve," stated the release, categorically confirming that "this proposal will not move forward." The decision follows a week of explicit rejection from UEFA and Concacaf, and a statement from CONMEBOL warning that commercial decisions should never overshadow football's essence. FIFPRO also proposed a joint meeting with FIFA, UEFA, CONMEBOL, the European Club Association (ECA), and the World Leagues Association (WLA) to formally discuss the initiative. FIFA plans to reconvene all stakeholders in the coming days and weeks to continue growing football worldwide, especially in countries most in need of the organization's support.
