Fighting continues in Lebanon as further negotiations loom

Israeli forces carried out multiple strikes across southern Lebanon on Monday, with Lebanese state media reporting significant activity in at least five towns, including a "large explosion" in Hadatha. The National News Agency (NNA) documented the shelling and military actions but did not immediately report casualties.

The Israeli military stated it conducted a "precise strike" in al-Aqida after a suspicious vehicle approached its soldiers. This action follows a preliminary agreement last month for Israel's withdrawal from two areas in southern Lebanon. However, Israeli officials have indicated their intention to continue military operations, asserting the agreement permits such actions.

Hezbollah, a major Iranian-backed militant group and Israel's primary adversary in Lebanon, was not a signatory to the agreement and has voiced criticism. Despite this, diplomatic efforts are set to continue, with Israeli and Lebanese officials scheduled to meet in Rome later this month to discuss border-related issues.

According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, Israeli strikes have resulted in at least 4,319 fatalities since March 2. The ministry's figures do not differentiate between civilian and combatant deaths. The ongoing conflict and the upcoming negotiations highlight the fragile security situation along the Israel-Lebanon border.
