Fiji allocates $10 million to improve rural water access

Fiji's Ministry of Public Works has announced a $10 million allocation to address clean drinking water shortages in rural communities across the nation. The funding is part of the government's broader commitment to improving water accessibility for isolated areas.

Public Works Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau stated that the allocation will significantly benefit rural communities lacking proper access to clean water. The project will employ a new, comprehensive survey method to guide the execution of works, aiming to prevent additional costs and ensure efficiency.

Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo added that the collaboration between ministries includes a guaranteed execution plan. This year's project figures are expected to be higher due to a complete survey of 13 critical areas using specialized equipment, which has provided a detailed assessment of potential groundwater sources.

"$10 million has been allocated under the Rural Water Programme, working closely with the Ministry of Lands Programme on borehole development to spread the benefits of water access across our rural communities," said Minister Tuisawau. The expertise from the Ministry of Lands will ensure the planned projects proceed without incurring extra costs.
