Fiji competes at ABU Robocon 2026

Fiji was among 16 university teams from 15 countries and regions that competed in the ABU Robocon 2026, hosted this year in Hong Kong. The annual competition, themed "Kung Fu Quest," tasked young engineers with a complex challenge: designing and operating two robots to simulate forging traditional weapons, collecting martial arts manuals, and engaging in strategic duels.

The event drew a significant crowd, bringing together over 650 participants, supporters, and media representatives, with approximately 2,000 spectators in attendance. Fiji competed alongside other nations from the Asia-Pacific region, including established robotics powerhouses like Japan and India, as well as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

After several rounds of intense competition, the host nation, Hong Kong, emerged victorious. Teams from the University of Hong Kong secured the championship title, with both of their entries reaching the final round. The ABU Robocon is designed to foster innovation, encouraging participants to combine their knowledge of robotics, engineering, creativity, and teamwork.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the event serves as a vital platform for young innovators to exchange knowledge and build international connections. The next edition of the ABU Robocon competition is scheduled to be hosted by Indonesia, continuing the tradition of promoting technological advancement and collaboration across the region.
