Fiji offers to host 2027 Pacific Games swimming events

Fiji stands ready to host the swimming competition for the 2027 Pacific Games, should Tahiti, the designated host, be unable to provide compliant swimming pools. The offer has been formally put on the table by Fiji, signaling its preparedness to step in.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Aliki Bia confirmed that discussions have taken place with the Fiji Sports Commission Chairman, Peter Mazey, about the possibility of Fiji taking over the swimming events. Bia emphasized that while Fiji has made its offer, the ultimate decision lies with the Pacific Games organizers.

Tahiti is scheduled to host the 2027 Pacific Games, but concerns have surfaced regarding the availability of suitable swimming facilities that meet the competition's standards. Fiji Aquatics vice-president Errol Taylor expressed hope that Tahiti will resolve its pool issues. However, he acknowledged Fiji's readiness to host if the need arises, stating, "at this stage they hope that Tahiti will have a compliant pool however, if that doesn’t happen, he adds Fiji is ready to step in."
