Fiji re-establishes diplomatic mission in Kuala Lumpur

Fiji has officially reopened its diplomatic presence in Malaysia with the inauguration of its High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. Foreign Affairs Minister Sakiasi Ditoka marked the occasion, stating that the mission signifies the return of the Fijian flag to Malaysian soil and heralds a new era in the relationship between the two nations.

Ditoka highlighted the historical connections between Fiji and Malaysia, referencing the bond forged during the Malayan Campaign in the 1950s. He extended gratitude to the Malaysian government and its people for their ongoing hospitality and cooperation.

Fiji and Malaysia share a long history, including the bond formed during the Malayan Campaign of the 1950s.

The High Commission is expected to bolster Fiji's energy security, diversify its trade partnerships, attract foreign investment, and broaden educational exchanges and people-to-people links. It will also serve to support Fijian businesses operating in Malaysia and across the broader ASEAN region, offer consular assistance, and strengthen ties with Malaysian institutions.
