Fiji’s Defence Obligations Under Proposed Treaty Questioned

Fiji’s lawmakers are questioning when the country could be required to deploy its military under the proposed Veitacini Treaty with Australia.

The treaty states that an armed attack on either party in the Pacific would be regarded as a danger to both countries. It also says each party would respond, prompting MPs to seek greater clarity about the scope of Fiji’s obligations.
