Fiji women gain skills for financial independence through New Zealand-funded program

A group of 46 women in Fiji have graduated from a specialized training program designed to foster financial independence and equip them with marketable skills. The Solo Moms Training Programme, held over three weeks in Davuilevu and Nasinu, provided participants with hands-on experience in various income-generating activities.

Skills taught included tie-dye, screen printing, jewelry making, and arts and crafts. Beyond the practical crafts, the women also received crucial financial literacy training. This component aims to help them manage their earnings effectively, make informed financial decisions, and plan more securely for their families' futures.

The initiative was facilitated by the Solo Moms Project and received funding from the New Zealand Government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Organizers expressed optimism that the newly acquired skills can be developed into sustainable small businesses, offering the women enhanced opportunities to earn an income and improve their economic standing.
