However, the USA quickly equalized and later capitalized on a Fijian error to score just before halftime, leading 12-7 at the break. The momentum shifted decisively after halftime, with Fiji demonstrating superior play and scoring prowess.

Verenaisi Divavutu reclaimed the lead for Fiji early in the second half with a try that made it 14-12. Miriana Talatoka extended their advantage to 19-12 shortly after. The Fijian team continued their scoring run, with Atelaite Ralivanawa adding another try to push the lead to 26-12.
