Filling station official hacked, Tk 1.21 crore robbed in Dhaka

A brazen daylight robbery occurred in Dhaka's airport area when armed assailants intercepted a cash-carrying vehicle, severely injuring a filling station official and making off with Tk 1.21 crore. The incident took place on Monday morning, disrupting the regular banking operations of the DL Filling Station.

The attackers then forcibly took the bag containing the money and fled towards Abdullahpur, according to the case statement.

The injured official, identified as Mohammad Al Amin, 49, the assistant manager of the filling station, was attacked with a machete after he refused to hand over the money bag to the robbers. He sustained injuries to his elbow, palm, and leg. Al Amin received treatment at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

Transporting cash to the bank is part of their regular operation.

According to the case statement filed by the filling station's manager, Md Abdul Karim, Al Amin was traveling in a covered van with two other employees to deposit the cash at a bank. Around 10:30 a.m., three motorcycles carrying six to seven men intercepted their vehicle near the BRTA lane under Airport Police Station. The suspects, described as being in their early thirties, brandished firearms and sharp weapons.

We deposit money five days a week. We don't suspect any of our employees, as they have been working here for a long time and are trusted.

Airport Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Kamrul Hasan, confirmed that a coordinated investigation involving police, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and the Detective Branch (DB) is underway. Authorities have collected CCTV footage from the surrounding area and are actively working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The filling station manager stated that they do not suspect any employees, as they are long-term and trusted workers.
