Two inmates serving sentences escaped from the Prokuplje District Prison two months ago, and they are still at large. A report marked "confidential" details an extraordinary inspection of the prison, from which the two convicts fled on the night of May 14-15. The Directorate for the Execution of Pecuniary Sanctions announced that four guards are under investigation, but the response to inquiries from N1 did not mention the responsibility of the prison warden himself.

However, there are no cameras covering their subsequent movements, raising questions about how they managed to get outside the secured walls, or even how they exited their locked cell. In Prokuplje, the search for the escaped prisoners is reportedly not as thorough as the escape itself was dramatic. Residents in the area of their registered addresses say they rarely see the police. "Unfortunately, it turns out that our prison is not well-secured and that individuals walked out. If someone is from Prokuplje and lives in the wider city center, it's impossible that we wouldn't find them and know them," Roganović stated.

The escape was briefly mentioned in the Serbian Parliament, but not extensively discussed within the city itself. While some residents of Prokuplje claim they haven't heard of the case, others saw it on social media and believe it might be true. One man noted that the case has been forgotten in Prokuplje, with no one discussing it or making statements. Another commented that he had no time to focus on such matters, stating, "We work, we don't deal with that politics." The responsibility for finding the escaped convicts lies with the police. Milošević criticized the situation, saying, "This is a land of wonders. Here the police cannot find two petty criminals who escaped from the Prokuplje prison.
