Film List Week 25: Pixar's "Toy Story 5" New in Cinemas

As the summer holidays approach, Pixar's "Toy Story 5" arrives in theaters, though it secures only the tenth position on the list of the best current cinema releases. Helena Lindblad, The Daily News's film critic, presents her curated selection of the top films available to watch.

The film list features a diverse range of cinematic experiences. "The Beekeeper," a poetic and warm drama set in the Värmland region of Sweden, explores the difficulty of expressing bottled-up emotions. "Couture" follows an American director experiencing a life crisis amidst the Parisian fashion scene, while "A Poet" offers a dark comedy set in Colombian literary circles.

Other notable entries include Kristen Stewart's directorial debut, "The Chronology of Water," described as wild and beautiful. "Backrooms" is a smart and tense horror film, and Fatih Akin's "Amrum" is a fairy-tale-like story about a German boy during World War II. The list also includes "The Devil Wears Prada 2," reuniting the original cast, and "Sheep Detectives," a child-friendly crime puzzle.

Rounding out the selection are Steven Spielberg's sentimental sci-fi saga "Disclosure Day" and "Toy Story 5." The latter, featuring voices by Fredrik Dolk and Anna Book, introduces a new character, Lilypad, who encourages children to engage with screens instead of playing.
