Romanian Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare stressed the urgent need for a stable government in Romania, stating the country requires one "as soon as possible."

When directly questioned about whether he would accept the role of prime minister should the president offer it, Nazare deflected the question. Nazare highlighted the collaborative effort involving the Finance Ministry, the National Bank of Romania (BNR), and support from the prime minister and president in navigating critical financial stages, such as the Fitch agency review.

He pointed to positive budget execution figures, noting a 28 billion lei reduction in deficit compared to the previous year, alongside a 9 billion lei increase in investments. Nazare attributed this success to the collective efforts of all credit authorities in minimizing waste and rationalizing expenditures.

Regarding potential leadership, Nazare reiterated that discussions about forming a government must take place between political parties. He indicated that Romania needs a stable government to facilitate a swift budget rectification, ideally in September-October, and to begin drafting the 2027 budget. Nazare noted that while discussions are ongoing between parties and with the president, he is not in a position to comment on them at this stage.
