Romanian president in constant contact with leaders to end government crisis

President Nicușor Dan remains in continuous dialogue with political leaders as Romania grapples with a persistent governmental crisis, according to Eugen Tomac, an honorary advisor to the president.

Tomac revealed that the president is deeply concerned about overcoming the political deadlock, noting that two previous nominations for prime minister have failed to gain parliamentary approval. The first, Tomac himself, withdrew after failing to form a team of professionals that could secure a vote of confidence. A subsequent political solution also did not pass Parliament.

"The problem is elsewhere," Tomac stated, suggesting that the impasse stems from political parties' rigid conditions. He emphasized the need for greater flexibility and political maturity to find a compromise. While two proposals from parties exist, Sorin Grindeanu from PSD and Siegfried Mureșan supported by PNL, USR, and UDMR, neither guarantees a stable majority, Tomac explained. The president is ready to make a new designation if a solid majority is presented.
