Finland lose all three matches with home World Championships less than 100 days away

Finland’s men’s national floorball team endured a difficult weekend in Chomutov, losing all three of its matches at the EFT tournament with the home World Championships less than 100 days away.

Finland opened with a 4-3 defeat by Switzerland on Friday. Sweden then produced an emphatic 8-2 win on Saturday, before the Czech Republic completed Finland’s losing run with a 3-2 victory on Sunday. Justus Kainulainen and Riku Hakanen scored Finland’s goals in the final match.

Finland enter the tournament as reigning world champions. Their latest title came in Gothenburg in 2024, when they beat Sweden 5-4 in overtime in the final. The 2026 World Championships in Tampere begin on December 5, with the final scheduled for December 13.

The women’s team had an identical record at its EFT tournament in Gümligen, Switzerland. Finland lost 6-2 to the hosts on Friday, 8-3 to the Czech Republic on Saturday and 4-1 to Sweden on Sunday. Finland will host the women’s World Championships in Turku in 2027.
