Finnish Accounting Firm Gallant Hit by Cyberattack; Ransomware Group Claims Responsibility

Finnish accounting firm Gallant fell victim to a significant cyberattack during the first weekend of July, prompting an investigation into the breach. The ransomware group known as The Gentlemen has claimed responsibility for the incident, according to reports from last week. Adding to the complexity, American cybersecurity company Socradar has indicated that a security flaw in Gallant's network could have been exploited by the attackers.

Gallant's CEO, Tuomas Tahvanainen, confirmed the cyberattack, stating that the firm experienced a breach targeting its data processing systems. While the immediate threat has been contained and a police report filed, Tahvanainen noted that there is no definitive evidence of personal data being compromised. However, he acknowledged that the attacker may have accessed information from Gallant's file systems.

The company is actively working with cybersecurity partners and authorities to investigate the attack vector and determine the full scope of the breach. Gallant has not received any ransom demands. Meanwhile, The Gentlemen, known for its aggressive spread of ransomware, has been identified as one of the fastest-growing cybercriminal groups. Socradar's specific claims about the vulnerability are still under review by Gallant, which is cooperating with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts.
