Finnish comedians turn experiences with criminals into comedy

The Vantaa-based sketch comedy duo Jonna Erola and Iina Sirkkiä are turning their unique life experiences into humor. Their work draws from themes such as criminal lifestyles, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and the realities of being a partner to someone involved in organized crime.

Their online videos often feature characters that vividly portray aspects of the criminal underworld. One sketch shows a gangster, identifiable by his cap, frantically searching for his 'Glock,' asking, "Where is my Glock? Have you seen my Glock?" Another video depicts an 'underworld CEO' conducting shady business over the phone, repeatedly uttering the phrase "yhdet puheet," which loosely translates to "one word" or "my word is my bond," signifying reliability in their dealings.

Erola and Sirkkiä met at a gym and have found common ground in their unconventional backgrounds. Beyond their experiences with relationships connected to crime, they also touch upon personal struggles, including their own use of illegal steroids, integrating these elements into their comedic narratives.

The duo's approach is to find humor in often dark or challenging aspects of life, making them relatable to a wider audience through shared human experiences, albeit presented in a heightened comedic style.
