Fire at Hyundai Battery Research Center in South Korea Extinguished; No Injuries Reported

A fire at Hyundai Motor Group's battery research center in Uiwang, South Korea, was extinguished early Tuesday after burning for approximately three hours. The blaze, which started around 12:48 a.m. in a waste storage room on the first floor of the battery research building, was fully contained by 3:31 a.m. Employees who heard the evacuation announcements were able to leave the facility on their own. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the staff. Fire authorities responded promptly after a report of visible flames on the first floor. The fire department deployed 37 pieces of equipment and 111 personnel to combat the fire, which was initially classified as a Level 1 response due to concerns of it spreading to the upper floors. The waste storage area reportedly contained automotive battery parts. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
