Fire at Plastic Factory in Balaraja Causes Estimated Losses of Rp10 Billion

Firefighters battled a blaze at PT Technoplastika Prima Perdana in Sentul Jaya village, Balaraja district, Tangerang regency, for about 10 hours on Sunday. The fire was reported at around 12:08 p.m., and crews were still working to control it by 10:09 p.m.

Several factory buildings appeared to have collapsed in the fire, while explosions were heard from inside the site. Amirudin, a platoon commander with the Tangerang Regency Disaster Management Agency, said crews first needed to control the flames before cooling and sterilizing the area.

Three factory buildings, covering a combined area of about 12,000 square meters, were affected. Authorities provisionally estimated the losses at around Rp10 billion.

For the firefighting process, we have now been working for approximately 10 hours. At this point, we are trying to control the fire. After that, we will sterilize the area, limited to cooling operations.

Strong winds and limited access to water complicated the operation. Sparks spread close to residents’ homes, although military and regency units helped protect the residential area.

The agency added a fire truck from the Legok post, bringing the total at the site to 13 vehicles and about 75 firefighters. Authorities said no one died, while firefighting and efforts to control the blaze continued into Sunday night.
