Fire continues to rage at Prostoria plant; workers devastated

Firefighters are struggling to contain a massive blaze that erupted Wednesday afternoon at the Prostoria furniture production plant in Pustodol Začretski, near Sveti Križa Začretja, Croatia. The fire, which has not yet been brought under control, is spreading rapidly through production halls filled with furniture and flammable materials.

Approximately 70 firefighters and twenty vehicles are on the scene, working to prevent the fire from spreading to the remaining parts of the complex. The fire has devastated current and former employees. "It's sad to watch this. I worked here before, it was wonderful to work. The company grew and progressed. About 250 people worked here, and now I wonder how they will all find jobs," said one former worker, visibly shaken. Many employees were reluctant to speak on camera, some unable to hide their tears.

A production worker added that while everyone is relieved no one was injured, the feeling of helplessness is overwhelming. "This is a catastrophe. As far as we know, no one was hurt, but it's hard for us. In one moment, everything disappeared. Now we watch even the little that's left burn. I don't know what tomorrow brings," he said.

Local residents also expressed fear and sadness as thick smoke billowed over the area. "Suddenly, dense smoke appeared, and we were scared. We didn't know what was happening. Sirens were heard, and we watched everything burn and disappear. Too sad," said a neighbor. The cause of the fire and the extent of the material damage will be determined after the fire is extinguished and an investigation is conducted.
