Fire engulfs Bangkok bar, killing at least 27

A massive fire engulfed a Bangkok pub in the early hours of Monday, resulting in at least 27 fatalities before emergency services could contain the blaze. Images circulating online depicted intense flames and thick black smoke erupting from the Na Ladprao pub in the northern part of the Thai capital, as individuals desperately tried to escape.

Rescuers reported the fire broke out around midnight. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed journalists at the scene, confirming the death toll and stating that several injured individuals were hospitalized. He indicated that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A musician performing at the pub recounted seeing smoke emanating from a disconnector near the stage before the power went out, followed by an explosion and rapid smoke filling the venue.

Firefighters took approximately half an hour to bring the fire under control. Photos from the aftermath revealed charred tables and chairs, with the interior of the pub severely damaged. This incident is not the first of its kind in Thailand; in 2022, 14 people died in a music pub fire in the country's eastern region. More than a decade prior, a New Year's Eve celebration at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok tragically resulted in 66 deaths and over 200 injuries, an incident believed to have been caused by indoor fireworks.
