Fire extinguished at Aramco refinery in Jazan, Saudi Arabia says

Firefighters successfully extinguished a blaze that erupted early Sunday at a facility within Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Energy Ministry announced. The ministry confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident.

Aramco's industrial security teams contained the fire, and relevant authorities are completing procedures to address the situation, according to a statement on X. The ministry did not specify the cause of the fire.

The Jazan refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily, produces refined products such as gasoline and ultra-light sulfur diesel. This incident follows a previous shutdown of the refinery on July 27. That closure occurred after an attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels damaged the plant's Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) complex and tank farm area, according to consultancy IIR.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for striking Aramco sites in Jazan and Yanbu at the time. These attacks heightened concerns about potential wider global disruptions to Red Sea shipping and Saudi oil infrastructure, stemming from the conflict involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran and Iranian actions around the Strait of Hormuz. Aramco CEO Amin Nasser stated last week that while recent attacks caused some production interruptions, he was confident operations would be restored quickly, asserting they had no material operational or financial impact.
