Fire guts Lagos hotel, no casualties reported

Emergency services in Lagos have successfully contained a fire that broke out at the Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, Awolowo Road, Ikeja. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the fire, which began at approximately 9:52 am, was quickly brought under control.

Upon arrival, responders discovered that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been severely affected by fire.

LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the fire affected a room on the hotel's first floor. Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical fault may have triggered the blaze, which resulted in significant fire and smoke damage to that section of the building. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported.

All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated to a designated muster point. A roll call was conducted to ensure everyone was accounted for. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police collaborated with LASEMA's Tiger Squad, arriving at the scene within 10 minutes of the distress call.

There was no loss of life and no injury recorded. All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated from the building to the designated muster point.

The affected area of the hotel has been restricted pending a thorough structural and electrical integrity assessment. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the emergency responders for their swift and professional inter-agency collaboration, which prevented the fire from escalating and protected lives and property. He also urged business owners to prioritize regular electrical maintenance and fire safety equipment.

The situation is now fully under control. The fire has been extinguished and the immediate danger neutralised.
