Fire in an apartment in Sector 3 of the Capital. 45 people self-evacuated from the building

A fire erupted in an apartment on Odobești Street in Bucharest's Sector 3 on Tuesday, August 4, sending large amounts of smoke billowing from the building. The blaze, located in an apartment on the 10th floor, prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames and heavy smoke. Six water and foam extinguishing units, a high-altitude intervention vehicle, a vehicle for extrication, a special rescue detachment, and two SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) teams were deployed to the scene. Search and rescue teams also conducted checks of interior spaces.

Fortunately, no victims have been reported in connection with the incident. Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, 45 residents had already self-evacuated from the building, ensuring their safety.

In light of the event, the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) reiterated crucial fire safety advice. They stressed that occupants typically have only two minutes to evacuate safely during a home fire. Functional smoke alarms and regularly practiced evacuation plans are vital for saving lives. The DSU also advised individuals to exit immediately if safe to do so, remain outside, and call the emergency number 112. If escape is impossible, people should shelter in the room farthest from the fire, close the door, seal gaps with wet cloths, open windows, and await rescue.
