Fire in Chrysoupoli, Kavala: 2 aircraft join battle against flames

Firefighters are battling a forest fire that erupted Monday afternoon in the Makrochori area of Chrysoupoli, Kavala, Greece. The blaze is burning in a rugged, hard-to-reach location, making the firefighting efforts particularly challenging. The Fire Service received the alert around 6:00 PM, immediately dispatching ground and air resources. Eighteen firefighters, supported by two specialized ground teams and two fire engines, are on the scene. Aerial support includes one helicopter and one aircraft assisting in the operation. The difficult terrain hinders the access of fire engines and complicates the overall suppression effort. Fire crews are working intensely to contain the fire's spread before winds potentially intensify. The Fire and Arson Crimes Investigation Unit of Kavala is en route to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and thankfully, no homes or residential areas have been reported damaged at this time.
