Fire risk map: Attica, Evia, Lesbos, and Chios on Red Code Wednesday, August 5

The warning comes from the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The categorization indicates a risk level of 4, signifying a "very high fire risk" for the Attica region, the Evia regional unit within Stereá Elláda, and the Lesbos and Chios regional units within the North Aegean region.

The "Red Code" mobilization entails the full activation of the National Civil Protection Mechanism. This includes deploying necessary personnel, resources, and equipment to ensure operational readiness for responding to potential emergencies and managing the consequences of forest fires. Short-term recovery and support actions will also be initiated to mitigate the impact of any destructive events.

Municipalities and regional authorities in the affected areas are called upon to convene their respective Local and Regional Operational Coordination Bodies for Civil Protection. These meetings will focus on preparedness, coordination, and the implementation of necessary preventive measures to address the heightened risk of forest fires.
