Fires dominate August disasters in Majalengka, West Java

Forest and land fires accounted for most disasters recorded in Majalengka Regency, West Java, during August 2026. The local disaster management agency recorded 33 incidents, including 23 fires.

The remaining August incidents included two cases of extreme weather, five drought events and five building fires. Fires had also dominated the previous month, making up 30 of the 35 disasters recorded in July.

Wawan Suryawan, a junior disaster-management specialist at the Majalengka agency, said hot, dry conditions and strong winds could allow even a small fire to spread. He urged residents to help prevent further fires. The agency is conducting awareness campaigns in villages with the military, police, municipal police and subdistrict governments because public awareness remains limited.

The dry season has also left several villages facing drought and clean-water shortages. Affected areas include Heuleut and Cipaku in Kadipaten district, Bantrangsana in Panyingkiran, Surawangi in Jatiwangi and Girimukti in Kasokandel. The disaster agency and other institutions have been delivering clean water while the dry season continues.
