Fireworks spark field fires in Bavaria

A stray firework ignited a field and meadow fire near Vohenstrauß, Germany, burning about 400 square meters of land. The incident occurred on Monday, with a 52-year-old walker discovering the flames and alerting emergency services.

An initial police patrol managed to contain the fire with an extinguisher before five volunteer fire departments from the region arrived to fully extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and a nearby photovoltaic system remained undamaged. Police found the remnants of a spent fountain firework at the scene.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are seeking assistance from two boys, estimated to be between 12 and 14 years old, who were seen cycling away from the area. Police emphasized that the youths are not suspected of involvement but may have witnessed crucial details. A similar incident involving fireworks also occurred in Aschaffenburg, where approximately 1,500 square meters of grassland and bushes caught fire, prompting an investigation into negligent arson.
