First Governor Appointed for Universitas Republik Indonesia, Set to Prepare Future Indonesian Officials

President Prabowo Subianto has officially inaugurated Air Marshal (Ret.) Donny Ermawan Taufanto as the inaugural Governor of the Universitas Republik Indonesia. The ceremony, held at the State Palace in Jakarta, also saw the appointment of Professor Yos Sunitiyoso as the Deputy Governor of this new institution.

Donny Ermawan Taufanto brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Vice Minister of Defense and before that, as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense. His military career includes graduating with honors from the Air Force Academy (AAU) in 1988, where he received the Adhi Makayasa award, recognizing him as the best graduate. He has also held significant positions such as Commander of the Air Force Command and Staff College (Danseskoau) and Commander of the II Air Operations Command (Pangkoopsau II) in 2019.

Professor Yos Sunitiyoso, the newly appointed Deputy Governor, previously held the position of Director of Downstreaming and Partnerships at the Directorate General of Research and Development within the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

The inauguration ceremony commenced with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," followed by the reading of Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 80 P of 2026 concerning the appointment of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Universitas Republik Indonesia. President Prabowo then presided over the oath-taking of the two officials.

During the oath, both Donny Ermawan and Yos Sunitiyoso pledged their loyalty to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and vowed to uphold all laws and regulations with integrity for the nation's service. They also committed to adhering to professional ethics and performing their duties with the utmost responsibility. The ceremony concluded with the signing of the official documents and congratulatory remarks from President Prabowo, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, and other distinguished guests.
