First grade in Kazakhstan: where to submit documents and by what date

Kazakhstan is preparing to welcome over 380,000 first-graders in the upcoming academic year, with a significant portion, approximately 320,000 children, already enrolled. This figure represents about 84% of the projected total, indicating a smooth enrollment process so far.

The educational landscape in Kazakhstan shows a strong preference for the Kazakh language, with over 71% of new first-graders opting for Kazakh-medium instruction. Russian-medium classes will accommodate more than 26% of the students. Public schools are set to enroll around 296,000 children, while private institutions will take in approximately 23,000.

Parents have multiple options for submitting applications: online via the eGov.kz portal or the eGov Mobile app, or in person at their chosen school. The required documents include an application, medical certificates, and a 3x4 cm photograph. The enrollment period runs from May 27 to August 31, 2026. Children eligible for first grade are those who have turned six or will turn six by September 1. Priority is given to students residing within the school's designated catchment area.

The Turkestan region anticipates the largest intake of first-graders, with over 50,000 students. Other regions with high projected numbers include Almaty region (over 35,000), Astana (approximately 33,000), Almaty city (over 31,000), and Shymkent (over 29,000). The Ministry of Education urges parents to complete the enrollment process promptly before the August 31 deadline. Additionally, authorities have previously clarified school uniform requirements for secondary schools.
