First medical report released on Mirtha Legrand’s health

Mirtha Legrand has been admitted to Buenos Aires’ Mater Dei Sanatorium with a bronchial respiratory condition, according to the first medical report on the television host’s health.

The 99-year-old presenter is staying in a regular room while doctors complete tests and continue the appropriate treatment. The sanatorium said she would remain hospitalized at least until Wednesday, when it plans to issue another report if her condition does not change.

Legrand’s family thanked the public for its affection and respect during the hospitalization. The statement from Mater Dei said the sanatorium would serve as the only channel for medical updates.

According to La Nación, Legrand was in good spirits and speaking by phone with acquaintances. Doctors were monitoring her as a precaution and to reassure her about her condition. She had bronchitis for several days and had no fever at the time of the report.

The illness also forced her to suspend the recording of her latest episode of La noche de Mirtha. Her granddaughter, Juana Viale, took over the program. Legrand had suffered a severe bout of flu in April that developed into bronchitis and previously said she needed additional rest at home.
